Working with Agencies
For its part, HHS largely has been respectful of
our message and concerns. AMGA, along with Mercy,
recently met with Sec. Price to discuss how federal regulations may hinder the physician-patient relationship.
We discussed the regulations governing the three-day
inpatient stay requirement, meaningful use, AUC, as
well as quality reporting and the need to reduce the
regulatory burden on providers who are participating
in value-based models of care.
In addition, after requesting AMGA’s assistance
with identifying an AMGA member, Sec. Price visited
Quincy Medical Group. During his visit, Price met with
Quincy’s board of directors, who articulated the importance of addressing the regulatory issues detailed above.
As a physician, Sec. Price appreciated the opportunity
to speak directly to and engage with physician leaders.
These opportunities are invaluable, as they dem-
onstrate our members’ commitment to moving toward
a value-based system and how HHS can help ease the
transition by using a light regulatory touch instead
of overly prescriptive federal mandates. AMGA will
continue to work closely with Sec. Price and his team
on these issues. Our members, however, are vital to our
efforts. Your experience and perspective on the day-to-
day effect of federal regulations informs our efforts and
hones our positions and voice. Together, AMGA and its
members can provide the leadership and informed com-
mentary and voice needed to realize a healthcare system
that is based on quality and value. We encourage you to
contact AMGA and get involved.
