Medical Groups Take Action to Change
AMGA Foundation’s Obesity Care Model Collaborative (OCMC),
launched in November 2017, is committed to setting a new
standard for treating patients with obesity. While there are
many different treatment options for these patients, a reliable
and universally accepted care model does not exist. The
OCMC is changing this by bringing medical groups and health
systems from across the country together to share strategies
and best practices for treating obesity. Participating organizations also submit obesity care data to AMGA, which will
synthesize, analyze, and report on any data trends discovered.
Here are some of the interventions OCMC participants
have implemented as a result of the program as of
F Obesity Clinic: A new clinic was created as a strategy to
address obesity in the patient population.
F Obesity Support Group: A physician-led community
support program was created for patients suffering from
F Shared Medical Appointments: Group appointments for
obesity and diabetes, obesity and comorbidities, and obesity and chronic pain were expanded.
F Metabolic Care Program: A program focusing on culinary
medicine was launched.
F“Weight for You” Program: This three-month program
focused on obesity and primary care.
F Community Garden/Food Pharmacy: A garden and
healthy food bank were created to engage community
members while providing healthy food for patients and
the larger community.

progress in future issues.
